{"id":1597,"date":"2010-11-02T16:44:19","date_gmt":"2010-11-02T16:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.againstchildtrafficking.org\/?p=1597"},"modified":"2010-11-04T18:12:11","modified_gmt":"2010-11-04T18:12:11","slug":"gran-of-madonnas-adopted-daughter-threatens-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.againstchildtrafficking.org\/archive\/de\/gran-of-madonnas-adopted-daughter-threatens-suicide\/","title":{"rendered":"GRAN OF MADONNA\u2019S ADOPTED DAUGHTER THREATENS SUICIDE"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/posts\/view\/161064\/Gran-of-Madonna-s-adopted-daughter-threatens-suicide\/ABOVE: \">Daily Star<br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">The gran of Madonna&#8217;s adopted daughter has threatened suicide unless the child is returned to Africa<br \/>\n2nd November 2010<br \/>\nBy Nigel Pauley<\/span><\/div>\n<p>THE gran of Madonna\u2019s adopted daughter has threatened to kill herself unless the child is returned to Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Mercy, now four, joined the 52-year-old superstar\u2019s family after a lengthy legal battle.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But her relatives are angry they have not seen Mercy for two years, even though Madonna has visited Malawi twice with her.<\/p>\n<p>Now the youngster\u2019s grandmother, Lucy Chekechiwa, who is in her 60s, has threatened to commit suicide unless the girl is returned.<\/p>\n<p>The family initially rejected Madonna\u2019s attempts to adopt but relented under pressure from the orphanage where Mercy was living.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy, who looked after the youngster after the death of her teenage mother, said she had not been allowed to see her grand-daughter as promised.<\/p>\n<p>She explained: \u201cAfter the death of my daughter, Mwandida, Mercy is the only daughter that I have.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cWhen these people came to adopt her I was against it but they insisted it was an opportunity for her to get a good education.
