They had entered into a domestic partnership. The mother was a American national, while her partner\u00a0was French. After the child was born, the Superior Court of the county of Dekalb, Georgia, permitted the\u00a0adoption\u00a0of the child by the French female partner of the mother\u00a0in 1999.\u00a0As a consequence, the birth certificate mentioned that the American woman was the mother, and that the French woman was a parent.<\/p>\n<p>The Paris\u00a0court\u00a0of appeal\u00a0had denied recognition to the judgment. The appeal against their decision\u00a0is allowed by the\u00a0<em>Cour de cassation<\/em>\u00a0which rules that the American judgement\u00a0is recognised.
