\nIn the early 1990s Norwegian Adopsjonsforum brought children from

Argentina was opposed to international adoptions already on the twentieth november 1989, when the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. But Adopsjonforum, a member of the Association EurAdopt, along with another Swedish Adoptionscentrum, defied the new laws.
\nEva Giberti, who works in the Argentinean Home Office and is the nation’s leading expert in adoptions, tells how the Scandinavian the organization tried to bribe her.
\n— I was called up by a woman who said to work for Adopsjonsforum. When we met, she said that I could get commissions if I eased adoptions. We understood that the woman was Adopsjonsforum’s Argentine representative, with offices in the city of La Plata long after foreign adoptions were banned.
\n— It was an unpleasant situation. Thousands of Argentine parents were queuing up to adopt both healthy and seriously ill children. But Adopsjonsforum seemed to only care about to get children for Scandinavian parents, “says Eva Giberti.<\/p>\n

We met Gilberti at her office in one of the huge buildings of the Home Office in Buenos Aires, a warm day in February 2007. She gives us access to a large collection of documents including those of the investigation into the corrupt Judge Alberto Mazzaroni, who was put on trial for child trafficking in 1992. \u00a0The case concerned children adopted to Norway and Italy. There are papers on all thirteen children adopted by Norway after 1989, like Adopsjonsforum’s invitations to Argentinean judges, there are letters signed by Adopsjonsforum’s then President Kjetil Lehland.
